The word "Shiatsu" comes from the Japanese word "shi", which means "finger" and "atsu", meaning pressure. Shiatsu Massage, Zen Shiatsu sometimes called, is a Japanese form of physiotherapy. It is often referred to as the equivalent of acupressure, but such a comparison is not entirely correct. Shiatsu techniques transcend specific pressure points, including massage, other methods, such as tensile, or rotation, to restore the energy balance in the body.

To perform massage uses thumbs, fingers and entire palm, using techniques such as rolling, brushing, movement causing vibrations, and capture.
